Each program includes a well-planned itinerary with students participating in activities throughout the day. Program fees include food, entrance fees and student materials for each participant.

Land Giants

Location: Calaveras Big Trees State Park (Arnold, CA)

Spend time marveling at the planet’s largest trees, the Sierra Redwood (Sequoiadendron giganteum). Check out the informative Visitor Center and see a variety of interactive displays, then take a walk through the grove of these giants and learn about their biology, ecology, and their interdependence with other plants and animals. Students participate in hands-on activities focusing on big trees and the forest they make up.

Coming home

Location: Taylor Creek Visitor Center (South Lake Tahoe, CA)
Tentative Date (contact us to confirm): October 25, 2023

Visit the Taylor Creek Visitor Center and take a guided tour of the Kokanee Salmon migration from Lake Tahoe up Taylor Creek. Students and adults get an up-close, eye-level view of the spawning salmon in the flowing stream when they visit the beautiful Stream Profile chamber. Students and adults will participate in hands-on science activities and field identification.

diversity is key

Location: California Academy of Sciences (San Francisco, CA)

Spend a day at the amazing California Academy of Sciences learning about the interdependence of Earth, ocean, and space. Explore a fascinating place filled with hundreds of innovative and engaging exhibits and thousands of animals. Count the number of teeth on the albino alligator; catch insects with a virtual butterfly net; and so much more.

Journey Home – California Coast

Location: Natural Bridges SP/ANO Nuevo SR
Tentative Date (contact us to confirm): January 17 & 31, 2024

Spend a day on the central California’s coast learning about animal migration. Participants will visit Natural Bridges State Park to observe overwintering Monarch butterflies and then travel a fe miles to Ano Nuevo State Reserve to observe the colony of migrating Northern Elephant Seals.

interactive science

Location: The Tech Interactive (San Jose, CA)
Tentative Date (contact us to confirm): March 20, 2024

The Tech Interactive is a hands-on technology and science museum for students of all ages and backgrounds. The Tech’s mission is to inspire the innovator in everyone by providing exhibits that immerse students in inquiry science.  Students will participate in interactive displays and in a Design Challenge, and they will experience an IMAX presentation (title to be announced once schedule of programs is published).

foothill wildflowers

Location: Red Hills Ecological Reserve (Jamestown, CA)
Tentative Date (contact us to confirm): April 3, 2024

Spend a day exploring nature’s spring wildflower show at Red Hills Ecological Reserve, starring monkey flowers, poppies, lupines, brodiaeas, larkspurs, red maids, baby blue eyes, and a host of other spring wildflower species.  Students will learn how to recognize common wildflower families using a simple field identification key to determine the identities of the flowers they observe.
